The PI System

The PI System connects sensor-based data, operations and the people who rely on data to manage process efficiency, asset health, quality and resource management.

The PI System works through server-based technology and makes historical and real-time data instantly accessible to users wherever they are. As a result, you achieve end-to-end visibility across the enterprise.

See How It Works

The PI System comprises:

PI Interfaces

Data originates from numerous sources.

  • OSIsoft has developed over 400 standard interfaces to real time data sources such as OPC, RDBMS, ModBus, SCADA, OLEDB, etc.
  • PI Interfaces temporarily buffer data and then translate diverse communication protocols and collection intervals so data speak a common language.

PI Server

Machines are constantly creating more data.

  • The PI Server’s scalability means that it can:
    • Collect large volumes of sub-second data
    • Store up to 20 million streams of high fidelity data
    • Deliver hundreds of thousands of events per second to client applications
  • Provides operational context to raw data streams. An asset-based metadata layer.
  • Organizes data by asset topology so that data retrieval is more intuitive to users across the enterprise.
  • The PI Server also includes, auto-event capture, streaming, asset-based analytics, notifications and performance monitoring tools

PI Tools

People need tools to collaborate around data and information.

  • PI Client Tools address visualization and analysis needs of stakeholders across the organization and include:
    • Graphical displays
    • Automated analysis and reporting spreadsheets
    • Web-based, ad hoc trending that can be visualized on multiple devices
