• Coriance PI World Barcelona 2018 customer story

As an energy services company, Coriance distributes hot water to cities and municipalities across France. Coriance has 30 heating networks spread over multiple substations and its equipment consists of gas boilers, cogeneration engines and more. Unfortunately, its legacy control systems provided only scattered, poor-quality operational data, preventing Coriance from understanding its asset performance and making preventive adjustments. Not only that, engineers relied on Excel reporting, which was cumbersome and complex. All of these hurdles made it impossible to understand energy consumption, optimize power production, and manage meter data from one centralized location. With the help from OSIsoft’s partner Accenture, Coriance turned to the PI System™ to collect, standardize, validate data, and gain real-time operational insights. Through a unique configuration, the company deployed the PI System in the cloud, giving its engineers access to a flexible solution that today is available anytime and anywhere.

Illovo Sugar PI World Barcelona 2018 customer story

Illovo Sugar Africa – a discrete manufacturer of sugar, headquartered in South Africa – produces a wide range of products from industrial sugars to prepacked sugar for direct consumption in domestic markets. Form Fill and Seal (FFS) Machines fill consumer stock units, and operational productivity hinges on minimizing the downtime of these machines as well as the risk of recalls from variability in product packaging. Unfortunately, FFS Machines have typically had a high probability of downtime and variability. With very little reliable, repeatable data at Illovo’s fingertips, there was no way to target and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

PKN Orlen is a Polish integrated energy company that operates multiple refineries and thousands of gas stations in Central Europe. The company is also the largest industrial producer of electricity and heat in Poland and operates water and wastewater treatment plants. Lack of real-time visibility into its water operations made it hard for PKN Orlen to tackle issues like leaks, profit loss, and resource management. To thread the needle, the company began using the PI System™ for its water and wastewater management in 2002 and shared the results of its digital transformation at PI World San Francisco 2018.

Founded in 1902, Air Liquide is one of the world’s largest suppliers of industrial gases, including oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen. Large Industries, a subsidiary of Air Liquide, operates hundreds of plants and primarily produces oxygen and hydrogen molecules using air separation units and steam methane reformer units. In 2015, Large Industries launched Smart and Innovative Operations (Smart and Innovative Operations, SIO. Perform for short) initiative with two clear goals: to eliminate unplanned shutdowns and double the efficiency gains of their gas production plants by 2020 through leveraging more value from their operations data. At PI World 2018 in San Francisco, Olivier Rioux, a project manager for the SIO initiative, told the story of how his team used operational data mining techniques to improve the economic performance of their plants and to reach their goals long before their 2020 deadline ...
