TEPCO Group and OSIsoft Enter MOU to Collaborate on IIoT
New commercial relationship seeks to accelerate the adoption of IIoT technologies across TEPCO Group companies including TEPCO F&P, PG, EP. TEPCO will initially deploy OSIsoft's PI System for predictive maintenance and improved thermal efficiency in power plants. TEPCO will look to develop new IoT products and services with OSIsoft technologies for external customers.
Tokyo Electric Power Company Group (“TEPCO Group”) and OSIsoft LLC today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to deploy Industrial Internet of Things solutions for TEPCO Group companies.
Under the collaboration, TEPCO Group companies will integrate OSIsoft's PI System into its operations to improve efficiency and help TEPCO achieve its social responsibility goals. TEPCO Group will also explore ways to create new products and services with OSIsoft technologies domestically and overseas.
TEPCO will initially deploy technology under the MOU in thermal plants for predictive maintenance and improved thermal efficiency. TEPCO has already validated the performance of the PI System in projects with its power generation company “TEPCO Fuel and Power” and its general power transmission and distribution company “TEPCO Power Grid”.
“Digital technologies will play an increasingly important role in meeting the energy demands of customers and society as a whole. Achieving our goals will require innovative breakthroughs in data analysis and operations management,” said Masafumi Tanaka, the General Manager for TEPCO's Business Innovation Taskforce. “We look forward to working with OSIsoft, which has been a leader for over 35 years in helping customers achieve actionable insights and operational excellence through data.”
Transforming the World Through Data
OSIsoft's PI System is one of the world's most widely used technologies for the Industrial Internet of Things with over 1.5 Billion data streams licensed across 19,000 sites and 125 countries. The PI System captures data from sensors, industrial equipment and other devices and transforms it into rich, real-time insights that engineers, executives and partners can use to reduce costs, optimize production, improve safety or meet critical goals such as reduced emissions.
PI System data can also be quickly transformed and “shaped” for big data and analytics platforms for predictive analytics or business intelligence, enabling companies to bridge the OT-IT gap and accelerate their digital transformation strategies.
Some of the world's largest organizations-including over 1,000 leading utilities, 95 percent of the largest oil and gas companies and more than 65 percent of the Fortune 500 industrial companies--rely on the high-fidelity insights from the PI System to manage their businesses.
“Real-time insight is a powerful asset. We have seen people use the PI System to increase the uptime of wind turbines, reduce energy consumption in large buildings and save millions in maintenance,” said Martin Otterson, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Partners. “Our alliance with TEPCO will streamline integration of these technologies and together can unleash the creativity of their employees.
