South China Grid controls nearly 300 GW of power flowing mainly from West to East over 2000 kilometers of high voltage AC and DC transmission lines. The foundation of our new system is the PI-HA System running on Microsoft Windows 2003 Platform. This system includes multiple computer systems linked over GB high speed Fiber Optics to 30 TB SAN drive. The system accepts data from multiple large EMS systems and WAMS systems. The WAMS data include 74 data streams from up to 200 PMUs sending data at 50 Hz. Thus a single PI-HA System handles real-time and historical data. The system includes high speed network isolator mandated by the State Grid. This device allows multiple users secure access to real-time. The PI AutoPointSync interface provides automatic maintenance of any change to the data streams from the EMS or WAMS devices. Standard PI ProcessBook is used to automatically generate one-line diagrams via standard CIM XML files. Windows Presentation Framework (WPF) is being used to create new interactive graphics for both operators and engineers.
