The Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Reliability Coordination (RC) utilizes a large and complex PI System implementation to provide data collection and visualization services to monitor the Western Interconnection. This PI System infrastructure consists of over 60 servers and 1.7PB (1,740TB) of raw storage spread across dedicated development, test and production environments.
The PI System is part of an overall WECC RC IT infrastructure consisting of approximately 400 servers, maintained by a total of four systems administrators and one PI System application administrator. With a high server-to-administrator ratio of 100/1, and stringent compliance requirements under the NERC CIP standards, it is imperative that systems be designed, built and maintained in a structured, efficient and automated environment.
The speaker will show the tools and techniques used by the WECC RC to deploy PI Servers, develop and deploy system baselines and define the ports and services available on the servers within the WECC RC PI System.
