INEOS Cologne used to collect and integrate information from all production and logistics processes from an outdated, decentralized Plant Information System (PIMS). The existing system is a homemade software and actually spread over 24 systems. A failure leads to partial loss of the DCS and therefore of plant information and control. The aim is to replace the old system by a central and highly available OSIsoft PI System and to ensure and enhance future functionality at all 24 INEOS Cologne plants. The challenge is not only to migrate the old software into a new real-time infrastructure but also to make sure that such existing applications as advanced calculations and reports will be available for plant operations.
The PI system will serve as a real-time and historical data infrastructure for all INEOS Cologne operations and business applications: Energy Management, Performance and Asset Monitoring including ERP (SAP) data integration.
