Our approach to adopting new technologies is to run “experiments” using actual mill data. We studied two issues - paper machine sheet breaks from one site and chemical usage from another. Over a 3-4 week period, we completed the learning objectives of these experiments – join us in this talk as we outline how we used the PI System , AF 2014, Asset Analytics, Event Frames and Microsoft BI (business intelligence) to apply context and calculate/visualize KPIs for a guided discovery. Although some of the data has been altered to maintain confidentiality, we provide details to explain how the BI tools provide insight from production and equipment data. This work has also prepared us for the next phase in the experiment i.e. using predictive analytics to forecast quality metrics (wet strength and brightness) to operationalize our findings.
