This presentation discusses the evolution of PI at QNI Yabulu Refinery. QNI Yabulu refinery is a nickel refinery located in North Qld. Employing over 700 people, the Refinery produces high quality nickel and cobalt products used for the manufacture of stainless steel, specialty steels, alloys and chemicals. During 2003 QNI Yabulu Refinery extended the application of PI to monitor Key Performance Indicators and Overall Equipment Effectiveness measures in assisting with reporting the refinery's Monthly Balanced Scorecard. Several of these reported measures would not be possible without PI-ACE and Sigmafine, due to the complexity of the calculations. Other Balanced Scorecard input measures such as number of toolbox talks and task reviews are manually recorded in the Crew Leader Log ProcessBook displays. QNI has implemented a downtime monitoring application for capturing downtime events which is currently being used to assess the efficiency of plant equipment. This presentation will also touch on some of the interfaces we have to other business systems at Yabulu.
