Equipment breakdowns, lost production and production delays are undesirable but often unavoidable realities of any processing plant. By accurately recording the factors that contribute to these events, we can turn these losses into learning opportunities, eventually reducing both the frequency and impact of downtime events. When the data is reliable, downtime information can also be used to direct an organization’s efforts towards the specific maintenance and operational issues responsible for the most significant production losses. The rtDuet system, which leverages core features of PI and AF, provides a simple and convenient means of capturing downtime information as it happens. The system also produces the necessary metrics for identifying areas of concern for operations, maintenance and management groups. This presentation covers the challenges and opportunities encountered during the implementation of the rtDuet system at a recently commissioned gold processing plant. Benefits realized by the system in the year following its implementation will also be discussed, along with real-world examples of reports and information generated by rtDuet.
