San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, provides safe and reliable energy service to 3.4 million customers in San Diego and southern Orange County. They have undertaken a series of Smart Grid initiatives to accommodate intermittent renewable energy sources and enable two-way power flow. However, these initiatives require real-time data for wide-area situational awareness of distribution assets, voltage, and weather to ensure safe and reliable power delivery. SDG&E implemented the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS to visualize the Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS operations dashboard includes real-time distribution operation data for system-wide voltage monitoring and visibility of highly loaded circuits as well as distribution assets performance, power quality, and business metrics. With this dashboard, SDG&E has connected the right data to the right people in the right context for the right decisions in real-time.
