This paper discusses the feasibility of utilizing Event Frames to trace product genealogy. Currently it is not possible to trace product genealogy natively using the PI System. A windows service was built utilizing AFSDK to create reference Event Frames between two or more related Event Frames from a specific product. This service was used in conjunction with three data sets in order to evaluate Event Frames as a method to trace product genealogy across different industries. This paper discusses two specific products within a Pharmaceutical and Discrete Manufacturing industry. After describing the linking schema that was used to trace each products genealogy, this paper discusses the outcome and benefits of said genealogy tracing. In summary, it was found that product genealogy can be effectively traced utilizing Event Frames.
