Eastman Chemical has been a PI Manual Logger user since the early 1990s, using it in areas of the plant where data cannot be automatically pulled from the DCS environment. This presentation reviews what Eastman Chemical has learned over the years regarding manual data collection including tips and tricks, deployment details, and other issues that are unique to working with field operators and handheld devices. Eastman uses both Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5 devices and will discuss both platforms. They are also in the process of migrating PI Manual Logger 2010, and this presentation will describe methods used to make this conversion successful and reduce costs to administer 25+ PI Manual Logger databases, hundreds of tours, thousands of PI System points, and to support users in numerous U.S. and overseas sites, including Singapore, the Netherlands, and Malaysia. It will also cover reporting and actionable items from the manual input data which are critical to the overall process.
