As a complex plant with numerous control systems, the thermal power station requires high technical operating skills. Without the ability to react promptly with accurate data and analysis of abnormal equipment performance, equipment can be damaged which leads to decreased plant credibility and risk of safety and most importantly unit trips which could bring tremendous loss. To prevent this problem, regular training for engineering staff and daily and scheduled maintenance are performed. However, there are limitations to handling the enormous data providing enough information for prompt decision making. This results in equipment defects and frequent stoppages.
Also, beside the regular schedule, various START-UP/STOP schedules are necessary for the conditional equipment checks. It is time consuming to achieve the exact schedule because the operational and management information from the existing control system has limitations and the tools for the real-time verification are not available. To solve this problem the ‘Thermal Power Operation Assistance System’ was developed for prompt detection of warnings and to advisor operators in case of abnormal operating situations.
