The tableting process behind the pill
As tablets comprise a significant proportion of oral solid dosage forms, tools able to support in formulation and manufacturing efficiencies are of critical importance. Tablet compression is a science and an art, and a successful product run depends on a host of factors. Firstly a good formulation secondly process optimization strongly affect final quality of the tablet: how to choose properly the most suitable result depends completely on scientist and formulator s decision. Mass uniformity, tensile strength, thickness, friability are ones of the most known parameters and values that have production needs, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic specific and regulatory requirements. The presentation will present IMAGO, IMA Active division application to use the PI System to analyse the relationships between process parameters on the tablet press and determine optimal settings based on current asset performance, highlighting the advantages that this application brings in tablet production

Federica Giatti
Federica Giatti is Compression technologist at IMA Active.
Graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology cum laude, she specialized in solid dose processes from the beginning of her career with an experimental thesis about coating.
She improved her knowledge working in a pharmaceutical company, where she was part of the production team dealing with oral solid dose forms and DPI: in this occasion both primary and secondary packaging were the core of the experience.
At the present, she is expert in tableting process feasibility, troubleshooting and customer assistance. She manages even pharmaceutical than extra-pharmaceutical powders in order to assess best compression process features, setting correct mechanical configurations and analyzing critical parameters. She follows customer productions with an experienced eye on tablet defects improvement and contributes in defining dedicated solutions for the machinability of new products.
