The Power of PI in Paper Manufacturing
Our 2006 PI implementation has consolidated various islands of information into a central reporting and analysis hub. A downtime recording and reporting system was developed using Module Database and Batch. Performance Equations calculate the cost of production in real-time using flowrates and raw material costs, and equipment operating efficiencies. Consolidated daily operations reports are automatically created using DataLink and distributed by email in PDF format. A hyperlink in these reports opens our PI intranet site where one can browse daily trends using ActiveView. The PI System has opened a new world of information and has brought the shop floor to the manager.

Trevor Richardson
Mr. Richardson graduated with B.Sc Engineering (Chemical) in 1996. He worked for Sappi Fine Papers, Enstra mill for six years, firstly as a Process Engineer then appointed mill IT Manager from 2000 to 2003. He moved to Mondi Packaging, Piet Retief mill as senior Process Engineer in July 2003. He was responsible for the roll-out of the PI System in 2006. He holds a B.Tech in Pulp and Paper Technology, postgrad diploma in Business Administration and honors degree in Technology Management.
