Iberdrola S.A. is the largest wind power producer in the world, and their subsidiary Avangrid includes Iberdrola Renewables, the second largest wind energy producer in the United States with over 6GW of capacity. To increase end user adoption, Iberdrola Renewables instituted PI System user group meetings to prioritize upcoming projects within a quorum of PI System users. The group focused on using the data infrastructure currently in place to make effective improvements rather than just "updates."
In a small project that required no outside help, Notifications for Met Towers were implemented to improve awareness of the Met Tower status. In this project, Iberdrola went from receiving monthly updates to weekly updates with key users receiving daily updates. Additionally, Iberdrola standardized the PI Tag database to help users trust the data, make the data easier to search, and improve the consistency of stored data. The company also incorporated price data into the PI System which has enabled Iberdrola to quickly put a price on lost generation. Finally, the group assessed data visualization options to choose new analytic tools to add to their arsenal.
