The Iraq Power System Challenge
Turbine Technology Services was required to provide a data historian as part of a major project for remote monitoring of power plants using com satellite links to a centralized monitoring center being operated by the Ministry of Electricity with support from the Army Corp of Engineers. While power plant monitoring with PI may be fairly straight forward in most countries, tackling a large scale project in Iraq is anything but simple and standard. We will describe the role that a large High Availability implementation of PI plays in this project, the challenges of meeting tight delivery schedules for a completely configured system including I/O, communications, and operational simulation, FAT, and doing all of this without the benefit of PI training. We will also cover the vital importance of OSIsoft technical support in getting our project delivered on time.

George Gramatikas
Mr. Gramatikas has 30 years experience in turbine generator and power plant design, installation, start-up, maintenance and upgrades and entrepreneurial and business management. In his early career with General Electric (GE) and later with Turbine Technology Services (TTS), he developed his extensive knowledge of heavy rotating equipment. Mr. Gramatikas received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from WIT and his M.B.A. from University of Central Florida.
