The Impact of Technology on Process Industries
Competitive pressures in the process industries are forcing manufacturers to adopt new business models that allow for increased flexibility to increase revenues and decrease costs. New technologies, such as those provided by OSIsoft and Industrial Evolution, enable businesses to migrate more quickly and further to the new business models. This presentation highlights how Millennium Chemicals is using new technologies to change its business model and how its newly-independent Optyxx business is creating new sources of revenue by helping customers accelerate product innovation and reduce operating costs. The expanding power of the PI System, web hosting and process modeling are key elements to help achieve this.

Roy Lyford-Pike
Roy Lyford-Pike is Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Millennium Inorganic Chemicals. In these roles, Mr. Lyford-Pike is responsible for establishing and maintaining the company's global information technology network. He also oversees Millennium’s global business process improvement efforts. Mr. Pike has been with Millennium for nine years, and previously worked for American Cyanamid and DuPont. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, and a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University.

Randy Hempel is the CEO of Optyxx, a Millennium-sponsored, startup focused on helping paper clients improve profitability by accelerating product innovation and process optimization. In his past assignments, Randy has held a variety of assignments at Millennium Chemicals and DuPont including creation of a corporate venturing group, global business leadership, marketing, sales, and technical leadership. Over the years, Randy has received numerous marketing and business excellence awards. Randy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University with Distinction, graduating in 1977.
