The Evolution of PI System at EQT
EQT’s goals as an operator is to be safe and efficient in every aspect of our business. As a part of this vision, EQT is leveraging data to make better business decisions across the company, while improving communication at every level. For EQT the process of implementing Pi started in the Mid-Stream asset and was focused around asset reliability and optimizing gas transfer. Based on the success achieved in this project and learnings transfer to other parts of the company new business uses and vision were and continue to be evaluated and implemented within both EQT and EQM. This presentation will aim to illustrate the path EQT took to implement PI, while providing insight into its current business cases and vision for the future. Some examples of the value which will be discussed include process monitoring and optimization, asset maintenance, remote operations, automation, machine learning, and enhanced collaboration / communications.

Oscar Smith
Oscar Smith, Senior Principal Engineer at EQT Corporation, a leading natural gas producer in the Appalachian Basin, has 39 years of experience in all phases on the natural gas industry. He began his career in 1979 in Detroit, MI, with ANR Pipeline (now a subsidiary of TransCanada Pipeline Co). Smith worked at numerous other Natural Gas Pipeline Companies and Consulting firms and in 2007 he returned back to Pittsburgh, PA, to join EQT Corporation . He received his MBA from West Virginia Wesleyan in 2002 and is a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Smith started working with OSISOFT in 2015 and is the program coordinator for EQT’s Reliability Centered Maintenance Program (RCM), which is improving the Company’s ability to effectively predict equipment issues and reliability.
