The Digital Utility: How We Get There
Digitization is arguably the dominant issue within the utility industry, yet BNEF forecasts only 35% of fossil-based plants will be digitalized by 2025. Claire Curry, who leads the Emerging Technology Group at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, will provide an exclusive forecast on the technologies and trends within the internet of things, and asses the benefits and barriers to adopting emerging technologies such as advanced processing power, machine learning, communications networks and cloud analytics.

Claire leads the Emerging Technology research at Bloomberg New Energy Finance. This team analyses developments in new technologies to assess what impact they might have on the future of energy and industrials. The team’s work covers the Internet of Things, blockchain, cybersecurity, data analytics and machine learning, and advanced materials. This includes understanding the business strategy of industrials, start-ups, utilities, investors and tech firms.
Previously Claire was a senior member of the advanced transport analyst team at BNEF conducting analysis of lithium-ion battery technologies & costs. Claire regularly presents at conferences, publishes research notes and helps clients navigate the world of startups, strategy and technology platforms. Claire holds an MSc from Imperial College’s Sustainable Energy Futures programme and a Chemistry BSc from Durham University.
