The Biggest Question in Digital Transformation: Who Owns the Data?
Data is the new oil. That means that (1) it takes quite a bit of effort to process it into something useful (2) it’s not worth anything unless you can sell it or at least share it with someone else and (3) there are going to be loud and long legal disputes over who owns it and controls it.
In this interactive session, attendees, PI customers and analysts will debate how data ownership will impact our business. Some of the questions include:
• Who really owns the data? Equipment makers? Customers? Both?
• Will blockchain or private industry clouds become the standard for exchanging and data
• What new business models will emerge and how will this impact capital financing and the cloud business.
• What role will insurance companies and banks play in this transition?

Michael Kanellos is an Industry Champion at OSIsoft and the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications. He has been a reporter, analyst and marketing exec in Silicon Valley for over 20 years with a focus on energy, semiconductors and the startup economy. He has contributed to New York Times, CNET, Forbes, 60 Minutes, CNBC, Newsweek, Newsday, the Chicago Tribune and National Geographic, among other outlets. A graduate of Cornell University and the University of California, he has also worked as an attorney, a travel writer and a busboy in a pancake house.

Norton Green is the Executive Briefing Program Director at OSIsoft. The relationship and ensuing trust our customers have in our products and services are our most critical assets. After joining the company in 2000, Norton spent his first fifteen years in the IT Department. The last six years were spent as the Global IT Director where he focused on scaling the IT Infrastructure as the company experienced tremendous growth. Norton holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Miami (FL).
