Thames Water: IT/OT Convergence - Navigating the Transformation Journey
Thames Water, the largest combined Water and Waste-water company in the UK, is undertaking a major transformation programme enabled by a company-wide “intelligence Hub” (iHub) to turn analytic insights into action to deliver critical business outcomes set by the Regulator and the company business plan.
The iHub supports “big data” analytics – but not in terms of simply trawling lots of data. Instead it focuses on extracting value from specific combinations of structured and unstructured business data together with real-time operational data provided by Thames' PI System from across more than 3000 plant and 140,000 km of water and sewerage networks.
This is a classic example of IT/OT convergence across the Enterprise. We will discuss challenges, pitfalls and solutions as Thames moves to a combined services support approach with end-to-end solutions enabled through OSIsoft enterprise infrastructure to deliver tangible business value.
We will show the results for specific use cases including: water production optimisation to reduce energy and improve water quality; avoiding pollution events through predictive interventions; and at-a-glance schematics that provide a single version of the truth to help manage operational excellence and customer service.
We will explain how we are delivering these solutions together with our technology transformation alliance and solution partners and determining the business case as Thames Water transforms to a new way of working.
