PI infrastructure is integral to the operation of American Electric Power. One major challenge faced by the AEP is how to replace lost talents due to aging workforce while remain responsive to new market condition. AEP leverages information management systems to improve work productivity. AEG began installing PI servers in 1993 with 5 PI servers installed. Now AEP has over 60 PI servers and 500,000 tags installed. With the PI infrastructure in place, AEP plans to develop a system that summarize vast amount of data collected by PI into Key Process Indicators (KPIs) and deliver those key information to the right person. The team at AEP utilized technologies such as PI Processbook, PI Server, Microsoft Sharepoint and Transpara to bring concise and in-context data to the right person at right time.
