Smart Cities & Industrial IoT: Qualcomm and OSIsoft Collaboration
For over 30 years the PI System has captured and stored high-volume time series data derived from sensors connected to hundreds of different automation and process control systems from a diversity of suppliers. Today the Internet of Things (IoT) is offering new opportunities to transform businesses. Low cost sensors connected directly to low cost hardware and the cloud for advanced analytics provides new opportunities to gather impactful data; data that can be leveraged for advanced analytics and operational insights to drive business transformations. OSIsoft has been working with various IoT Gateway vendors to research deploying connectors directly on gateways and routers. Qualcomm is an OSIsoft customer that has previously deployed the PI System in their data centers and is now deploying the PI System plus IoT gateways across their entire Smart Campus. This project showcases the capabilities of the PI System to be a standard interface to the world of sensor-based information. With this information real-world examples of delivering real-time data to various other environments such as SAP HANA, SAS, ESRI ArcGIS, and Microsoft Azure cloud for advanced analytics (ML) environments will be illustrated.
