CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides products and services to customers throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. CEMEX has a rich history of pursuing innovative industry solutions and efficiency advancements. As part of a global strategy to standardize operations, CEMEX implements the project PIMS-QM, of which the main goal is to replace an existing in-house developed laboratory information system (SICA) with the new Enterprise Agreement OSIsoft real-time infrastructure. This project allowed integration of quality data on a single infrastructure. Using the PI System database and standard OSIsoft tools—PI ProcessBook, PI DataLink, PI WebParts—the PIMS-QM application empowers the corporate and user plants with a single version of the true. PIMS-QM main benefits: reduction of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO); unification of access to quality and laboratory data through the standard naming & tools; minimization of the time needed to gather data from automated laboratory equipment; optimized reports and facilitated analysis of quality variables to take opportune actions in cement production; and reduction of training costs.
