Plains All American (PAA) is a publicly traded master limited partnership that owns and operates midstream energy infrastructure and provides logistics services for crude oil, natural gas liquids, natural gas, and refined products. PAA owns an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage, and gathering assets in key crude oil and NGL producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. Plains Gas Solutions (PGS) is a Houston-based midstream resource management company that designs and operates gas processing and condensate processing plants to help producers optimize revenues and minimize costs. For PAA and PGS, communication with producers and commercial employees is critical to the success of midstream companies in this difficult economic time. Historically, plant operating data used to be given only upon request, and all reporting formats were manual spreadsheets that each took up to an hour to complete. Today, utilizing various PI System tools, management is now able to more easily see key process indicators, and daily reporting has become an automated exercise that is completed in less than 5 minutes. A proof of concept project is also underway with PAA, to demonstrate the capabilities and value of PI AF for the transportation business segment as well as to identify and implement tools specifically to support transportation energy management.
