There was an urgent need to improve throughput in one of Tate & Lyle's batch operations. The talk will outline how they used a sandbox environment to rapidly deploy the latest PI System which helped identified a bottleneck in their operations. By removing the bottleneck, the batch operations yielded over 5% increase in throughput. While still working with older versions of production PI Servers, the sandbox with Asset Framework, Asset Based Analytics, Event Frames, and Microsoft BI became the data and analytics infrastructure. In just two weeks, Tate & Lyle changed their operation routine from configuring the data collection and setting up calculations to slicing and dicing the data for operational insights. To maintain confidentiality, the data shown in the talk has been altered. The talk will show the data model used at Tate & Lyle and useful visualization screens that leverage the PI Server and Microsoft BI tool. The sandbox environment has been key to engaging multiple sites and used in several targeted applications such as downtime and OEE tracking, daily morning production reports to senior managers, and KPI dashboards.
