Talisman-Energy has used the PI System since 2001 when they installed it for monitoring a single subsurface well surveillance. Over the last twelve years, the PI System has evolved to become a strategic element of Talisman-Energy’s technology landscape as an integration and applications infrastructure. Talisman-Energy signed an Enterprise Agreement (EA) with OSIsoft in 2012.
There have been many PI System based applications and solutions added over the last twelve years in the areas of process and well surveillance, and single source data to hydrocarbon, chemical, and corrosion systems. The PI System based applications have delivered significant additional business value from proactive monitoring of critical safety and production rotating equipment assets.
This presentation discusses the history, implementation, and benefits of Talisman-Energy’s Rotating Equipment Excellence Programme (REEP), focusing on improving reliability, integrity, and reducing production losses from critical rotating equipment failures. Currently, the REEP application is monitoring over 2800 pieces of critical rotating equipment globally, using PI AF, PI ACE, PI Performance Equations, and PI Notifications as illustrated by various screen shots and data flow diagrams.
The Enterprise Agreement project will be summarized including justification and approval highlights and a perspective of the benefits of the EA.

Sam Scott is currently a real-time systems engineer at Talisman-Energy where he focuses on real time data acquisition and applications development and ensuring effective methods to gather real time data from Talisman’s global Oil & Gas assets as necessary for effective monitoring and control.
Scott has over fifteen years’ experience in a variety of IT roles within the Oil & Gas industry.

Ian Gore
Ian Gore is a Principal Systems Engineer with CSE Controls Ltd in Aberdeen. He has been working with real-time systems in the Oil and Gas Industry for the past 28 years and has designed and developed complete SCADA systems and real-time applications including Pipeline Management, Well Testing, Artificial Lift and Equipment Monitoring. Gore has worked with the PI system since 1998 and with Talisman since 2006. He is the Technical Design Authority for the Spotlight application which has been developed and deployed within Talisman over the last two years with a rollout program for the next year.
