Stora Enso Langerbrugge produces 550.000 tons of newspaper and magazine paper per year and is part of the Stora Enso Group, which has operations in Paper, Packaging, Consumer Boards, Biomaterials and Living/Building products. Stora Enso Langerbrugge has been using the PI System since 2001 and has more than 100 active users working with the PI System analyzing about 140.000 tags. The PI System is being used by different departments including Maintenance, Production, Quality and Power Plants, for various purposes such as daily monitoring of process variables, preventive intervention and maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Stora Enso Langerbrugge is now moving away from the traditional way of working - collecting and archiving data from control devices (DCS, SCADA, PLC), trending the data and reporting - towards Predictive Maintenance through extensive use of PI Notifications and the Asset Framework (Data Structure and automated Business rules through Notifications and alarms). These notifications are sent automatically to SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) where automatic work orders are generated for preventive maintenance purposes. This new way of working has had a significant positive impact on efficiency, quality and in reducing the number of unplanned downtimes in a 24 x 7 production environment."
