PI-The Backbone of Conectiv's Generation Asset Management
Conectiv Energy, through use of PISDK, PI Module Database and Microsoft Programming languages, has created a set of applications, reports and displays which maximize productivity in managing power generation assets. PI system also forms the database backbone for the newly implemented Generation Management System (GMS) at Conectiv Energy. The system architecture for the new GMS has been designed to maximize the benefits of the PI system robustness and ease-of-use of the client tools for data analysis and features. Presentation describes how PI is used in an unconventional and yet extremely effective way to manage generation assets and various forms of data (not just plant or operational data). Also described is how PISDK has been combined with Module Database and Microsoft’s .NET programming environment to create applications that help manage performance and profitability of generation assets both in real-time and after-the-fact. Also discussed are methods by which data is shared between PI, GMS, and other corporate systems as part of Conectiv Energy’s goal to make the flow and transmission of market and operational data between various systems seamless.
