Presentation: PI System Solutions for Advanced Grid Management

APS had been using PI for many years. In 2015, APS began an Enterprise wide program to fully leverage PI and this has changed the way PI is deployed, managed and used within the organization. Broadening the use of PI has unlocked value for end users through the delivery of applications as well as improving the use of the data. This presentation provides an update on the overall program and solutions and on the impact the program has had on APS’ Transmission and Distribution business. The paper will give an overview of key initiatives related to Advanced Grid Technologies and Feeder Analytics. As a more specific example, we will review the implementation and evolution of the Volt Var Management application. This application supports a key objectives for improving the reliability and quality of the overall distribution system. The solution leverages a wide range of technologies, including PI Vision, Event Frames and Notification.
