Phelps Dodge Smelter Realized Cost Savings and Increased Revenues with OSIsoft's PI System
The PI System is a vital element in achieving Phelps Dodge Miami Smelter’s production and metallurgical goals. The values for approximately 4800 parameters, such as temperature, flow, pressure, level readings are collected. Although nearly all short-term and strategic decisions are based to some degree on the information stored in PI, there are some exceptional cases when Pi’s real-time information saves a substantial amount of money for the company. One of the very good examples is in controlling the production rate to avoid losses of the primary product – copper, which is discussed in this paper.
