Presentation will describe standards for network and device modeling, as well as how these models can be leveraged in an open, flexible and scalable development infrastructure environment.
The objective is to establish a service oriented architecture which can be used to collect, integrate, correlate and visualize data from various substation data sources, to develop techniques to extract calculated data or metrics for calculating performance metrics (i.e. breaker open time, breaker close time from intelligent relays, or equipment condition metrics), thereby maximizing the value of the installed devices for monitoring the equipment fleet, reducing risk, and improving the asset performance and transmission reliability.
The need for a Smart Grid or more precisely a Smart Substation creates new requirements for real time measurement data and utility model sharing between two separate worlds: operation and protection systems. Thus, there is a need for introduction of a unified platform established in CFE that has visibility on merged network models and device models so that new, enterprise-wide applications can be developed for the utility.
The OSIsoft infrastructure will provide an ideal venue to solve issues associated with the management of a diverse set of substation assets in the areas of security, interoperability especially at the substation configuration language level, wide area monitoring PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit), GPS time synchronized issues, wide area protection and next generation substation automation requirements.

Raul Lopez
Raul Lopez is the Chief of Information and Technology in Transmission, from CFE-Comision Federal de Electricidad, Mexico City, Mexico. He graduated from University of the Americas, Mexico, with a BSEE degree major in Electrical and Communications Engineering. Raul has been working for CFE Commission Federal of Electricity, Mexico for over 20 years. His specialty and experience include Communications, Electric Control Systems, Business Processes and Management, etc. As the Chief of Information and Technology in CFE Transmission Division, he is currently leading various CFE Smart Grid initiatives, including establishing the Condition Based Maintenance methodology and techniques for Asset Management, operations and substation information system and technology enterprise integration and network model standardization for CFE transmission.

Prior to joining OSIsoft in 2006, Ann worked for an electric utility company for extensive years in Grid Operations. In her role within OSIsoft Business Development, Ann works closely with T&D Users Group Community to assist the PI T&D industry customers to achieve effectiveness with the PI infrastructure and provide support for various utility enterprise initiatives.
