OSIsoft: The Power of Data in Power Generation
The world's electric power capacity will double by 2040, according to the IEA, and a growing portion of this capacity will come from solar, wind, microgrids and other technologies. Power producers will also have to meet new regulatory requirements and adjust their business models to meet the challenges presented by new providers and consumer demands.
Data will play an increasing important role in addressing these challenges. Greater access to data will also create environment where engineers and executives can make better decisions – faster, more accurate and while minimizing risk- for optimizing real-time operations and long-term value.
The 2016 Power Generation Industry session will bring together thought leaders sharing their stories for expanding and enhancing the use of real-time information. This session's topics will demonstrate how companies leverage the PI System to form the foundation for Proactive / Condition-Based Maintenance, Fleet Management, Operational Excellence, Performance and Efficiency Improvements, Security, and Sustainability.

David Thomason has 34 years' experience in applying information technology to the requirements of the electrical Power Generation & Utility industry. He is an active advocate in the use of advanced analytics and technologies to enhance business value. Prior to joining OSIsoft, David's responsibilities included working with multi-market Energy Management System, Plant Data & Analytics systems, SAP Work and Material Management, custom software development & Support teams.
He joined OSIsoft in January 2011 in Business Development focusing on global power generation. He is currently the Industry Principal, Power Generation.

Mr. Chris Crosby is an Energy and Utilities industry executive and consultant with over 36 years of experience -- 20 years of that experience in various scientific, business and executive roles with Duke Energy. For the majority of his career, he has focused on developing and delivering technology-based solutions to enable the achievement of the following objectives: to enable energy and utility asset owners and stakeholders to improve their safety, to improve their operational and reliability excellence and to improve their business performance. The use of big data and the evolution of big data visualization and analytical tools is advancing in the Energy and Utilities market and he has significant interest in driving adoption. Mr. Crosby is a regular speaker in conferences all over the world and actively participates in organizations such as the American Nuclear Society (including international chapters), the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), Nuclear Information Technology Strategic Leadership (NITSL), US-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) Nuclear Power Working Group (NPWG), US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and the Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group (UVIG).
