With a population of 24 million, 13 million+ customers and 50GW installed capacity, Taiwan Power Company (TPC) has taken steps to establish a high quality and efficient grid for a low-carbon society and sustainable community. TPC has adopted the PI System for generation, renewable energy and an Emergency Operations Center. The talk will show how to use the PI System to cope with renewable wind and solar challenges, and develop forecasting, methodology and track results. It will introduce a new initiative, using PI System technology for microgrid/distributed energy resource management. The use cases will validate the control system s capability to operate with higher percentage of intermittent resources by utilizing the various assets (wind, solar PV, micro-turbine, variable load bank, and energy storage) effectively.
