NRG Energy’s goal is to be the premier merchant portfolio operator, leveraging its infrastructure and actively managing its assets. In order to achieve that goal NRG has to update their current processes and change existing behaviors used to manage their assets. Several spreadsheets with macros, an old school mentality of screenshots, and excessive traveling to investigate issues at plants. When evaluating the best way to gain insight into their operational data, NRG Energy identified the PI System as a solution that would leverage existing infrastructures and provide seamless real-time data access. This presentation will describe an initiative to develop displays for the engineering and maintenance groups that will deliver insight into the units in the fleet from remote locations. They are also using PI WebParts to deliver weekly and monthly reports on asset performance (Steam Purity, Controllable Losses, etc.)
