International Papers (IP) has used PI to replace proprietary applications with the standard offerings from OSIsoft. They used Web Services and data compression to transfer large amounts of gauge data to clients across the WAN. Paper machines typically have 10-20 sensors with 600-900 databoxes scanning every 20 seconds. The first challenge was to get all the data into PI. The next challenge was to return the information to users in a timely manner. This presentation will demonstrate how IP used PI Server, PI-OPC, PI-PE, PI-API, as well as SQL Server, Web Services, and XML.
