Since 1996 JUWI has been a pioneer in renewable energy, growing from a two person startup company to one that now has more than 1000 employees and generates over $1Bn in turnover. Being a leader in the provision of project services for the planning, construction, financing and management of renewable energy facilities for both Wind and Solar requires JUWI to offer in-depth industry expertise combined with the innovative use of technology to deliver the services that enable it to succeed in a competitive marketplace.
From its starting point in 2012 JUWI has used the PI System to collect real-time operational data from a range of energy facilities enabling them to gain improved operational insight and a more detailed understanding of the way that valuable assets are performing so that operating variables can be tuned to drive efficiency. This presentation will highlight the journey that JUWI has undertaken using the PI System, the milestones already achieved and JUWI’s vision for further, increased utilization of real-time operational data to deliver continuous improvement across their organization and operations.

Thomas Weiss
DR. THOMAS WEISS graduated in mechanical power engineering at the Technical University Munich. He earned a Ph.D. for his studies in predictive control algorithms for Siemens combined cycle power plants.
Weiss started his career in non-destructive testing at Westinghouse Electric Co., then moved to a local utility where he was in charge of the entire technical structure: two combined cycle plants and a high voltage grid. In 2009 he joined the juwi Group where he leads the Plant Monitoring Section, supervising 2000 MW of renewable energy plants. In this role he is a key player in implementing OSIsoft products in the control room of juwi.
Weiss has a French background and grew up in Haiti: he says the constant power outages there fed his interest in the power industry. He is member of the German Federation of Engineers.
