Public policies, such as greenhouse gas accounting and renewable portfolio standards, are changing the industrial and consumer energy landscape. Manufacturers have valuable untapped generation and storage capacity that can help achieve the public goals of wise energy use. Leveraging these resources will require a holistic approach to the entire energy value chain. Dr. Kennedy will explore the cooperation required between utilities, manufacturers and consumers and the important roles of smart grids, micro-grids and the real-time data infrastructure.
