Union Fenosa has been using OSIsoft products for several years and has developed a robust operational management system that integrates the generation information for the whole company (seven plants in Spain, three in Mexico). Recently, Union Fenosa and SOLUZIONA started considering pool market management in Spain for both the technical and economic aspects of the generation business. In Q2 2005, SOLUZIONA started a pilot project that focused on the variable costs for power generation using PI data as the source of information for representing the behavior of the plants, taking into account their technologies, and splitting the power generation variable costs. This system will be used for daily monitoring and predictions of power generation, as well as natural gas bidding and consumption. “What-if” analysis for any given period is also included in the scope of this system. This project will be discussed, including the current status, and some interesting results.
