Production loss accounting and optimization is an important focus for HYDRO Alunorte. This has historically been performed manually for the seven production lines, requiring a large engineering effort and resulted in lower precision and slower analysis than desired.
Leveraging the PI System’s functionalities and the AFSDK, the Loss Management System (GSP) was created. Analyses monitor the status of each production line and events are generated for all loss events. Notifications are sent to inform operators of loss events so corrective action can be taken immediately. Over forty thousand elements are present in the system’s asset hierarchy.
After only six months from implementing the Loss Management System, hundreds of engineering hours were redirected to other efforts and over 900,000 cubic meters of losses were mapped and characterized. HYDRO Alunorte now has trusted, real-time, causal and actionable information on production losses.

With participation in several OsiSoft seminars, I presented the Usiminas Mineração stop system in 2014 and in this project participated from the beginning acting directly in the design of the system.
