An internal team from ScottishPower working with Capula, Ltd have successfully delivered a project for improved reporting of a number of key performance metrics at Longannet Power Station. Longannet is one of the largest coal-fired power stations in Europe and the second largest in the UK, with four 600MW units capable of generating enough electricity to meet the needs of two million homes. This contract forms part of Team Longannet, aimed at extending the working life of the station.
Using the ScottishPower OSIsoft PI System data historian as a central data repository, Capula designed and implemented a solution using Asset Framework (AF) and Advanced Calculation Engine (ACE) functionality to combine data from disparate sources around the power station. This provides the Longannet management team with improved visibility across a number of capabilities including Operational, Commercial, Health, Safety and Environmental and Performance. Individual metrics include combustion performance, load following and plant availability.
