Lit San Leandro (LSL) is revolutionizing the City’s telecommunications infrastructure, positioning San Leandro to be a major player in the high-tech, advanced manufacturing, and clean-tech economies. Lit San Leandro offers state-of-the-art fiber optic Internet connections to businesses. Real-time fiber optic monitoring, alarms and geo- location awareness are essential for 100% availability of ultra-fast (Gigabit-Fast) Internet for business needs in voice, video and mobility.
Current fiber monitoring products have limitations because of lack of real-time alarming, location visibility of fiber break and customers have to call in to report when internet is disrupted. The time to locate a fiber break is also unpredictable because it is a manual procedure. Proactive fault detection is critical since there is growth in construction in city of San Leandro. Fiber optic network monitoring has been redefined in this case study with the use of PI system presented by Lit San Leandro.
LSL has teamed up with Xompass to provide a real-time data collection and alarming system with location, using PI Cloud Services and Microsoft Azure. The real-time monitoring system collect, analyze and alarm on OTDR signal on our Fiber Optic network.The system will alarm within minutes of a cut in the fiber and will reduce the time to fix by 4 to 6 hours. The next steps will be to integrate the alarming layer with Esri ArcGIS, to enable a fully featured solution for both alarming and infrastructure of the fiber networks. We expect high customer satisfaction for businesses using Lit San Leandro and Xompass technology powered by the PI System.
