The topic of analytics is broad and with the current hype, confusing and overwhelming. Where does one start? What considerations and best practices should be considered? What analytics can and should be done in the PI System and PI AF vs higher level analytics including statistical, geospatial, "big data", machine learning, and the list goes on.
This presentation will provide some definitions and perspectives to help the audience get more value and understanding from the panel discussion following the break. The key points that will be discussed are: Use of PI AF as an enterprise data object model as foundational for all analytical methods; The Integrator for Business Analytics are "translators" between the time based analytics in the PI System and the higher level retrospective and predictive analytics that use tabular structures; Understanding the importance of time context in deciding what and where analytics are done; Using PI AF as an OT analytics "preprocessor" where calculations, real time analytics, and other analytics are done in PI AF and transmitted via the integrators to higher level analytics methods; Understanding the use and development of the PI AF data model is a journey and best done in segments attached to key business initiatives and evolved over time. The PI System is a hybrid infrastructure capable of operating both on-premise and in the cloud based on security, use cases, and design principles; Several "art of the possible" PI AF analytics including forecasting, predictive, and complex analytics will be used to illustrate the power and capabilities of PI Asset Framework as foundational for all analytics."

Craig Harclerode
Craig Harclerode is a 35 year O&G industry veteran in the use of automation and information technologies to improve the performance and profitability in all segments of O&G and Industrial Chemicals organizations. He is a global O&G industry visionary and thought leader who is experienced in assessing current use of information and automation technologies, developing strategies and plans to drive business value, and improving organizational efficiency and sustainability defined by a company’s ability to adapt and endure over time.
Most recently, Craig has been focusing on O&G big data technologies, IT/OT integration, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and the growth in smart sensors, business intelligence, and analytical methods using the OSIsoft PI System as a context infrastructure.
In his current role as OSIsoft’s Industry Principal in O&G, Craig consults with O&G and Industrial Chemical companies globally on how the PI System can add value to their organizations as a strategic real-time integration and applications infrastructure. He holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Rice University. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and is a Project Management Professional (PMP).

Curt Hertler
Curt Hertler is a Global Solutions Architect based in Cleveland. In this role, he helps OSIsoft customers gain value from their PI System. Curt has 19 years’ experience in petroleum refining working for Marathon and BP. In addition to process engineering, he was involved in many optimization projects using linear programming and developed several online modelling applications. He was involved in many refinery PI System projects as well. He graduated with a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
