Keeping Assets Healthy – PI System’s Role in Asset Maintenance
The role of a PI System in Production and Operations is well understood. And, PI System use cases in reporting, environmental compliance, energy monitoring, operational KPIs (key performance indicators), and others, are also well documented. In Maintenance, the PI System is often mentioned in a condition-based maintenance (CBM) context. However, CBM is such a broad topic that it can mean different things to different people and it may refer to one or more of the “condition-based maintenance” techniques, such as vibration, ultrasound, thermography, oil and wear particle analysis, motor testing, dissolved gas analysis, partial discharge and others. While these data are useful for Maintenance, they have a narrow focus and are limited in scope without providing a 360 degree view of the health of an asset. Attend this talk as we discuss PI System's role in asset health assessment which forms the basis for maintenance actions. You will also see how to configure the various PI System components for CBM. Using real-life examples, we will walk through AF element and calculation templates, alerts and notifications, and dashboards and reports with asset health indicators - for an end-to-end user experience. We will discuss ways to use the framework for common assets such as pumps and motors, filters, compressors, transformers and others.

Gopal GopalKrishnan
Gopal has been involved in several roles at OSIsoft and has been working with the PI System since the mid-1990s, in software development, technical and sales support and field services. Attached to the Philadelphia office, he is currently a Solution Architect in the Partners & Strategic Alliances Group. Previously, he was a Product Manager with a focus on Enterprise and Asset Integration and PI Data Access. Gopal has a master's degree in engineering, continuing education in business administration and is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania. He is also active in the MESA Technical Committee and the MESA Continuous Process Industry Special Interest Group and active in topics such as data mining, energy efficiency, manufacturing intelligence, sustainability, including green initiatives in facilities and data centers.

Keith has 30+ years in Utilities, primarily power generation and T&D. 4+ years w/OSIsoft, CoE & GSG. Specific areas of expertise, extended experience and/or interest include cyber security (design, monitoring, etc., including nuclear power), BI/Big Data (drafted reference architecture, participated in prescriptive architectures, experience, etc.), AMI/ODMS (reference architecture, use cases, scalability, etc.), SAP (and other ERP/EAM integration scenarios, including MMI, SAP PM, SAP XI, etc.), CBM (implemented several projects, wrote, ok drafted, the book, etc.). Mostly engaged with sales pursuits on the art of the possible, reference architecture, proposal responses and PI promotion. Conducted about 6 CoE AF Value-Add workshops.
