ISO Market Participation for Wind Generation Assets
Presentation:
ISO Market Participation for Wind Generation Assets
PRESENTATION
2012 - Renewables Users Group Meeting
ISO Market Participation for Wind Generation Assets
Exelon Wind owns wind generation assets across several ISO/RTO markets, including Midwest ISO (MISO), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), PJM, and ERCOT. While much of the fleet generation is registered as intermittent renewable resources and sold through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), more recent wind projects within MISO are being registered as dispatchable intermittent resources (DIR) and subject to specific market integration requirements and dispatch/curtailment risk. In order to meet the MISO DIR requirements for production forecasting and outage coordination, the PI System, PI AF, and PI Web Services are leveraged to integrate the monitored wind assets with existing Exelon systems that were primarily utilized for fossil and nuclear generating assets.
Presentation Objectives:
Describe the business drivers and requirements for registering and operating wind-generating assets as DIR within MISO
Describe how Constellation (formerly Exelon Power Team) and Exelon Wind manage, market and operate DIR resources
Describe and illustrate how the PI System was used to integrate DIR wind assets with existing Exelon generation systems and automation
Describe future PI System and application enhancements to help better manage plant capacity and profitability
