IoT in Healthcare: Using the PI System for Continuous Patient Monitoring
This project is based on the capture of biomedical data such as heat rate, oxygen blood saturation and arterial pressure, during a medical stress test supervised by medical staff using wearables devices in order to study the applicability of the continuous monitoring for 24 h to detect risks or critical situations in chronic diseases such as the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). All the information of each patient is stored in PI in a structured way to be consulted at any time by medical staff in order to build statistics analysis, evolution of biomedical data, etc. over a patient, or a clinical study with a population. This tools can help doctors in the diagnosis and their corresponding treatments. This study is possible to perform by the participation of medical researchers of the University of Granada, Clinical Hospital of Granada and the Health Counseling of the Junta de Andalucia (Spain).

José Miguel Gutiérrez Guerrero
José Miguel currently works at Abbott Laboratories in the Granada, Spain factory. He started as an IT and Automation Engineer in industrial vehicles and concrete plants. After that, he worked with business intelligence systems to analyze incoming process data for industrial environments. Currently, he is working on optimizing the PI System platform's potential from a data modeling and analysis point of view. Thus improving the industrial process performance at the Abbott Granada Plant.
He has also implemented PI System installations at the University of Granada to develop a project regarding the OPC UA standard and Analysis Framework, and to introduce the PI System in the University community in Granada.
José Miguel holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Granada, and a postgraduate degree in Real Time Software Development. He is currently finishing his PhD in Metamodels for the Industrial Environment based on OPC-UA.

Juan Antonio Holgado Terriza
Juan A. Holgado-Terriza (M’2006) received a B.S. degree in physics from the University of Granada, Spain, in 1991 and a PhD. degree in physics from the University of Granada, Spain, in 2001. From 1991 to 2000, he was combined research in Instrumentation on Applied Physics with a position in a Spanish Baccalaureate School. From 2000 to 2012, he has been an Assistant Professor with the Software Engineering Department at the University of Granada (Spain). Since 2012, he reached a Tenured Professor position in the same Department. He is the author of more than 100 articles. His current research interests include middleware for networks, services and systems integration, software platforms for embedded and mobile devices, ubiquitous home automation and ambience.
