Integration of Asset Information Display through the PI Server
With a large network of transmission assets across the country Transpower has vast quantities of asset related data. This data is collected in various ways, stored in various databases, and accessed by various applications. It was clear there was a need to better process and sort this data, transforming it into information for improved situational awareness and asset decision making. There is significant value in utilising our existing data more effectively before looking at installing significant numbers of online monitors. Transpower has built an Asset Information Portal that combines asset related data from its maintenance management system, SCADA via historian, works planning database and other asset databases. This is delivered in a web environment, allowing for quick and easy access to the asset information. The simple premise of having all asset related information in one location not only saves time, but allows relationships between different pieces of data to be seen.

Michael O'Brien
Michael O’Brien is an electrical engineer, working in Transpower’s Asset Management group responsible for AC Stations equipment. Michael has been with Transpower for three and a half years, initially starting on the graduate training programme that involved rotating through various Transpower divisions and groups. Michael’s major work experience involves asset management strategy and planning, online monitoring equipment, PAS-55 change initiatives and PI Historian. Michael has just commenced a project secondment to assist with the replacement of Transpower’s core maintenance management system with IBM’s Maximo.
