GMR is a business conglomerate headquartered in Bangalore, India, with interests in Airports, Energy, Highways, and Urban Infrastructure. GMR's Energy Division has 2,135 MW of generation assets in operation and 5,043 MW in various stages of implementation with a diversified fuel mix consisting of coal, natural gas, solar and hydro. A few years ago GMR identified the need to remotely monitor in real-time its broad fleet of assets with standardized metrics from a central location. The solution had to be scalable to accommodate several new assets that were coming online and accommodate future growth. Data from multiple disparate sources had to also be integrated from the many systems already in use. In 2011 the PI System was chosen as the data infrastructure for the solution and was installed at all operating power plants. Recognizing the value of broadening the visibility and use of the data in the system, GMR Energy embarked on a project in 2013 to integrate three major technology platforms – SAP, Microsoft SharePoint, and the OSIsoft PI System. This presentation will cover GMR Energy's journey with the PI System, the challenges with integrating diverse technologies, and the benefits realized from the solution.
