Integrating Data into Digital Power Grids

Electricity grid operators are employing digital technologies to adapt to new challenges in transmitting and distributing power. This includes sharing operating data between companies, using predictive maintenance to reduce outages, and experimenting with artificial intelligence for grid balancing. The extent to which grid digitalization is happening differs by region and company. This presentation will go over BloombergNEF findings on European utility digitalization with an emphasis on the role of open source data and software.

Eleonore is an analyst on the Digital Industry team at BloombergNEF. This team analyses developments in new technologies to assess what impact they might have on the future of energy and industrials. The team s work covers the Internet of Things, blockchain, cybersecurity, data analytics and machine learning. Eleonore focuses on power system digitalization, looking at how digital technologies change the way utilities manage and run generation, transmission and retail. Eleonore holds an MSc Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, and a BSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
